Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE SERVICES AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.

Kind of Work

This is professional work, under general supervision, coordinating resources for youth being processed through the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC). Employees in this classification are responsible for managing and monitoring cases, arranging and coordinating support and resources with various social services agencies, the Jefferson Parish School System, and other state and local service providers. Monitor and manage cases on an as-needed basis; arrange client counseling, support and intervention. Coordinate services and exchange information between criminal justice agencies, and the Jefferson Parish School System. Coordinate special service arrangements. Assure data management activities meet requirements. Produce status reports and monthly self-audits. Conduct risk and need assessments. Maintain case files, including contact log and referral form. File correspondence from clients and other agencies. Use computer-based mental health screening tools. Individual must have personal vehicle available to drive to and from various locations in Jefferson Parish in order to perform job duties. This position will also work a varied schedule including nights and weekends.  Position also requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.

Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree* in Psychology, Social Counseling, Social Work, or related field; PLUS, significant, professional-level experience in mental health screening and assessments AND/OR case management with juveniles and their families.  Relevant, specialized field placement work of at least 480 hours as a student intern may substitute for the required experience.
 
*NOTE: Proof of Education in the form of a college transcript which states major field of study and graduation date is required.
 
NOTE: Any conviction listed in the Louisiana Child Protection Act (Louisiana R.S. 15:587.1) is considered disqualifying, unless written proof of pardon is submitted in time for consideration with the application.

Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment. The information is subject to verification and the Personnel Department reserves the right to determine the quality and quantity of education and experience claimed for credit.
